This past week Sarah, Sue, and I spent a couple days exploring beaches on the Central Coast in San Louis Obispo County. The Pacific is still chilly this time of year and a steady onshore breeze had us all in sweatshirts for most of the day. The three beaches we visited were:
We took our van down here with the intention of camping on our first day. You can take vehicles out onto the sand at Pismo, but unfortunately the van isn’t equipped with 4wd. As the tide moved in we had to drive up onto softer and drier sand which eventually proved too much for our van to move through. Rather than risk getting stuck, we decided to move on for the night.
Avila Beach is just a few minutes up the coast in a sheltered bay. We had dinner here and set up camp for the night.
Montana de Oro State Park
This was our final stop. Montana de Oro includes several miles of beach and rocky coastline. We spent most of the next day here before heading back to Sue’s home in Solvang. Watch the video below for a quick recap of our 2 days on the coast:
